A little more of what matters
Wellness is more than one thing.
Your mind, your body, and your spirit are connected. Here’s a closer look at four practices from the guide that you can make your own.

From the guide · Mindset
Little rituals for a steadier day.
A gentler start doesn’t require a perfect morning routine. The book suggests small, repeatable pauses that leave you feeling more present and connected to yourself.
- Begin with gratitudeTake five minutes to write down something you’re thankful for, even if it’s something small.
- Ground yourselfTry a short affirmation or a few deep breaths before the day gets loud.
- Choose one intentionDecide how you want to show up today, without turning it into another demand on yourself.
- Get outsideSpend at least 30 minutes in fresh air and sunlight every day — a walk, a porch sit, or simply stepping outside can lift your whole mood.
- Make room for quietTake a mindful break from screens and noise, then notice one small win at the end of the day.
Progress over perfection. Always.
From the guide · Fueling the body
Nourishment, not restriction.
What you eat can influence your energy and how you feel. The guide makes space for colorful food, hydration, and balance — not rigid rules or “perfect” meals.
- Start with waterHave a glass of water when you wake up, and keep water within reach throughout the day.
- Build a colorful plateBring together vegetables, protein, healthy fats, and whole grains in ways you enjoy.
- Slow down for a mealNotice your hunger cues, take your time, and let eating be a moment of care.
- Choose a satisfying snackFruit, nuts, or yogurt can be simple options when you need something between meals.
Real food, eaten with joy — no diet required.
From the guide · Movement is medicine
Move in a way that feels like yours.
Movement doesn’t have to feel forced. In the book, it’s an everyday form of self-care — something you can adapt to your energy, interests, and life. It doesn’t matter what it looks like; what matters is at least 30 minutes of movement you enjoy, every day.
- Pick what you enjoyWalking, dancing, yoga, or stretching all count. Start with something you actually want to do.
- Keep it manageableA short, repeatable session can help you build momentum without overwhelming yourself.
- Make it yoursPut on uplifting music or a podcast, head outside, or bring a friend along.
- Notice how you feelPay attention to feeling stronger or more connected, rather than chasing perfection.
- Change it upTry an outdoor walk one day and a gentle stretch the next. Variety can keep movement enjoyable.
Move in a way you enjoy — every day.

The heart of the guide · Faith in action
Put God first.
Faith isn’t an add-on at the end of the list — it threads through every chapter of the guide. Michele writes about time with God not as one more thing to get right, but as space to find peace, perspective, and purpose. A quiet moment with Him can be the place everything else begins.
- Pause and praySet aside a few quiet minutes to talk with God, listen, or simply be still.
- Return to His WordRead a passage of Scripture and carry one truth with you into the day.
- Speak lifeNotice the words you say to yourself. Practice replacing a discouraging thought with a hopeful truth.
- Find your peopleReach out to a prayer partner, trusted friend, or mentor who can encourage you and pray with you.
- Serve in small waysA listening ear, a kind word, or a helping hand can be a way to live out your faith.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

Meet Michele Cooke, RN
This is what purpose can look like.
After more than 30 years in nursing, I’ve learned that caring for someone means seeing the whole person — not just a diagnosis or a difficult day. Body, mind, and spirit all matter.
My story also holds the deepest grief a mother can know — the loss of my child. For three years, that pain was my whole world. Finding my way back to reality, one small step at a time, changed how I understand healing: it isn’t forgetting, and it isn’t rushing. It’s learning to carry love and loss together.
That’s why my next chapter is health ministry: caring for young men and women in the psychiatric hospital where I work, and in ministry, walking with young women — meeting them where they are, and reminding them that their story still has purpose. As I heal, I want to help others heal too — to give back the hope that was given to me. Mentally Spicy is part of that same heart for hope, healing, and everyday care.

Your story is not over.
Dillon — forever part of this story
